PG&E Tells Federal Judge That Tower at Ignition Site Was In Need Of Repair
A judge overseeing PG&E’s criminal probation in a past case ordered PG&E to provide information about its role in causing the Camp Fire. In a lengthy filing submitted to the court on December 31, 2018, PG&E admitted the allegations in our lawsuit, acknowledging that the fire ignited near the Poe dam after a c-hook broke loose from one of its high tension towers.
PG&E also disclosed that its equipment on an adjoining tower failed as well, which PG&E previously discovered was damaged and in need of repair, but had not yet been repaired. According to PG&E: “in September 2018, [PG&E crews discovered] an insulator hold down anchor’s turnbuckle had become disconnected and required repair. . . a notification was created to repair the insulator hold down anchor within 12 months. That notification was open at the time of the Camp Fire in November 2018.”
