Legislation Introduced to Assist Recovery from the Camp Fire
Assemblyman James Gallagher has introduced a pair of bills to help Butte County and those affected by the Camp Fire recover. The first aims to help alleviate the housing shortage in Butte County. AB 430 should streamline and accelerate the environmental review process for certain new housing projects, helping to house some of the 50,000 displaced individuals.
AB 431 would exempt the recovery area from some environmental requirements that should speed up the rebuilding process and save money. It will also help pay for a proposed sewer system to serve Paradise, instead of relying on the 11,000 septic systems that previously handled the town’s waste. Gallagher said “The goal is to ensure that as the town rebuilds, it rebuilds better and more resilient than before.”
